A leading physical medicine and rehabilitation research hospital for adults and children in a large US metropolitan area was looking for a visitor management system that could process outpatients and visitors via a kiosk and limit their access using CCure 9000 access control system and RFID integration. The visitor experience was paramount since there wouldn’t be personnel to guide the visitors.
Workflow:
Inpatient visitors are verified through a drivers license scan to allow HIPAA compliant patient search. Outpatients are verified through drivers license scan and matched against Epic scheduled appointments. After scanning their identification, Outpatients can see all their own
upcoming appointments. Upon sign-in PassagePoint encodes an RFID access credential with the specific clearances based on the host location - host being the Patient for Visitors or appointment location for Outpatients.
Visitors and Outpatients receive an RFID encoded visitor badge that integrates with the Rehab’s CCure access control system. The RFID badge contains an integrated circuit and an antenna, which is used to transmit data to the RFID reader. The readers receive the information from the RFID tag and the door automatically opens. The user does not have to find and tap the card to the reader.
The RFID integration for this project included using a Zebra RFID Printer using ZPL (Zebra Programming Language) to encode the badges during the badge printing process.
Summary:
STOPware provided a complete solution using a mult-integration approach - kiosks, HL7, access control and RFID printing.
Streamlined workflow allows self sign-in via kiosk eliminating the need for multiple personnel signing people in.
RFID badges tied to access control allows visitors and outpatients unescorted access to their destination.
