CASE STUDY: Healthcare Mobile App integration using PassagePoint Rest API allows for 12 second sign-in for Outpatients

One of the leading cancer treatment centers in the US came to STOPware wanting to integrate PassagePoint with the mobile app. Being a Cancer hospital, customer service and user experience are of utmost importance. Patients are coming in for scheduled appointments over a period of time for chemotherapy, radiation, etc.

Workflow:
The doctor assigns a patient to come in every week for the next 10 weeks. This is entered into the hospital’s Epic system. PassagePoint listens to Epic and when we receive these messages, using the HL7 integration module, we create a pre-registered visit record for that Outpatient for the specific date, time and location for the appointment(s). When the visit record is created we push it to the mobile app.

When the Outpatient arrives for their appointment, they open the mobile app, pull up the visit which displays a QR code, scans the QR code which signs them in and prints their badge and then they can enter the hospital and go to the destination assigned. This can be accomplished in 12 seconds. If a person comes in at the wrong time or day, the sign in is blocked because it doesn’t meet the appropriate parameters.

Summary:

Outpatients with scheduled appointments are automatically pre-registered in PassagePoint via the PassagePoint HL7 integration module which listens for real-time ADT messages for any person scheduled for outpatient services from their Epic system.
Using the PassagePoint Rest API tool appointment information and unique QR code are pushed to the hospital’s third party mobile app system where those mobile users can easily sign-in for their Outpatient appointment upon arrival.
The result is 12 second sign-ins for the hospital’s Outpatients.
